the sub and i went around to make sure they had capital letters and the correct punction

miss b explained what they were doing in book clubs today
they were to pick one book and then pick one sub title and pull info from that section
miss b old them that no one should be arguing over the book and that everyone should share
i picked a group and worked with them
i asked them which book they chose to work with
they said the national geographic one
their topic was how sea turtles get their food and what they eat
i made sure that everyone got to pull info from the book
when someone would find the info they wanted to write down i would read the kids the sentence and spell out any hard words
this made the process go faster
one student came back in from speech so i asked to use Gwen's notebook to that he could get the missing info that he needed

Since it was so nice out the kiddos had extra recess
When they came back in we started math
I was checking math boxes and working with 3 students at the back table
The students didnt really need help they just needed someone to keep them focused
No one needed much help with math boxes except the problem where you had to read the time on the clock
they didnt understand how to figure out how much time was in between the two times that were shown
the students went to gym class

buddy groups
each group is assigned a couple of books that have the same topic
the group i worked with had turtles
they had to find similar topics in the books
they found how turtles eat in each book so thats what they wrote down with the page numbers
i had to tell them to get back on topic a couple of times because they would start talking about other things
i made sure that each person had what they needed in their notebook before we moved on
we moved onto reading workshop
i read with amiela
she was reading a book about an octopus in a storm
she needed help with some words
before i would tell her what the words were i would have her try to sound them out
she read to me for about 15 minutes and then we finished her book
i then went into the classroom and talked to miss b about dras
its a testing that each student has to take
all students are on differnt levels
it tracks how much the student has increased or decreased in reading

while miss b met with other students i read with students that chose to do reading independently
miss b wanted me to read with chase because he wasnt reading correctly this morning
we read for about 15 minutes
he got through one chapter
he was reading the littles and the book was talking about the adventure that they were going on
i asked chase if he knew what was going on throughout the book
made sure that he was comprehending what he was reading
he knew just about everything
the book mentioned a "brook" so i asked if he knew what that was and he said no
i explained it to him that its a small creek with barely any water  in it

only one rotation had to be done because we didn't get to it yesterday
i checked math boxes at the back counter while miss b taught her group and mrs. oberdeck took some students that didn't get done with math boxes back to work with her
many students needed help measuring
they had to draw a square that was 1 1/4 inches
they weren't sure where that mark was
they were getting it confused with the 1/2 mark
after i checked everyone i went and sat with miss bs group
they were working on 3d shapes
miss b is tired of having to tell the class to be quiet so she told them that they cant play math games
they must do the next page of math boxes instead
miss b said they could do a brain break if they were quiet going back to their seats
they were and earned the brain break

i had to tell students several times that they needed to quiet down
i asked multiple times if they needed help
some said yes some said no
bannon was writing his 3 backwords and i know that he knows how to write a number 3 
i told him to erase it and to fix it
he does things like this to get attention
miss b says the same thing
morgan got very frusterated 
i just ignored her and let her calm down
when i saw her trying the problem again i asked her if she needed help
she said yes
we worked through the problem again and got the right answer

many people asked for help with the breaking apart method but i never learned how to do that so i told them to ask miss b at the end of the day
i made sure that the rest of their boxes were right and if they were i starred them and sent them back to their seats
asked william if he was done he said no so i said he shouldnt be talking then

it was a chart and she didnt understand that you have to group sections together
i explained then she understood

Watched Arbor Day Charlie Brown until JA got here
An emergency came up so the JA advisor couldn't make it
Moved onto science
Had to read a packet and watched video with groups
Miss B explained how that they could pause the video to write important info down
Explained how it is a group project so everyone needs to wait for each other to finish writing
Its not a big deal who gets the computer to watch the videos

The students were out at recess when I first came in so I just started working on my portfolio
They stayed out for a little bit longer because of the nice weather
When we came back inside we started reading workshop
Miss.B had conferences with some students
I took Bannon into the hallway because he was having troubles getting back into the swing of things now that PSSAs are over
He read to me in the hallway
He seemed to be focused because whenever I would ask him a question about the book he was reading he would answer the question correctly
After Bannon and I read about 4 chapters I met with Noah
Noah told me that he was going to read me his favorite book
He did really well and we got through 2 small books

health teacher came into room to teach lesson about the stages in life
had students get into groups to give characterists of each age group
the students were talking but the teacher didnt say to stop talking
he just talked over them
i sat there and worked on my internship portfolio
after they were done miss b took them out for extra recess

We worked on an open response to the PSSAs
Miss B said that they needed more work on the open response
They followed an acronym
As I was walking around I noticed that the students were pretty much copying what Miss B had on her screen
Lots of students were forgetting periods and werent spelling things right
I would point it out to them and tell them that they really need to be paying attention
We had to have a student erase the things he put because he wasnt listening and didnt have the correct answer
He got mad at us but we told him that he should have been following along with us
We did a relaxing brain break
After we did our open response miss b just let the students work on the booklets they got today at their assembly
the students were very excited
the booklet had things like crosswords and wordfinds

some students had to move around the room and others stayed at their desk with a privacy folder
since its math the students can ask for the question to be read to them
some of the students that should have had the questions read to them didn't
they should have had them read because they aren't the best readers
i had to have a student move because her and another student wouldn't stop talking
made a student turn his seat around so that he wasn't distracting the other student by making funny faces
made a student go back to his seat because he wouldn't stop talking to his friends
a student tried to use a ruler for the problem and i had to explain to her why she wasn't allowed to do that
i saw many students frustrated with the word problem but i couldn't help them because we aren't allowed to
they did a brain break once they were done because they were sitting for a long time
moved onto math games
they got to either do a card game or get on the computers
they were allowed to work with partners
miss b told two students that they couldn't work with each other because they wouldn't take it seriously

bentley had them read their books because they have a guest coming in to talk to them about Alice
she explained to them that alice isnt a joke
they all started laughing when she explained to them that they might have to protect the door
she told them that this is what they would do if someone came into the building that wasnt supposed to be here
she also asked them to remember what alice stood for
they got all of the letters correct
she told them that when they are done they will move into reading workshop and then move onto their assembly which is outside
and then after the assembly they will have extra recess

When the kids came in from recess they read till book exchange
While at book exchange Bentley and I covered up all of the posters in the room that could
Potentially help the students while taking pssas
We do this so early so that the kiddos get use to things being covered up so it’s not such a big change
Then we moved onto practice for the pssas
They were doing the math part
They can’t get help but we can read the problem to them
We had multiple kids ask for the problem to be read to them
I had to say many times that the kiddos that they need to make sure that their bubbles are filled in the whole way
The one student got mad when I made him fill in his bubble but I still made him do it because that's how its going to be on the PSSAs
Bentley had to tell the students multiple times that they cant write on the test itself they have to do their work on their scratch paper

they were all saying how its so col out
helped bannon and chase with their math boxes
had to tell morgan and ameila several times that they needed to stop talking and finish their math boxes
made morgan move because she wouldnt stop talking

i told him that i know that he can write neater then that and he agreed with me
made chase write all of his work out on scratch paper instead of tring to squeeze it onto his paper
he had to do groups or 4 and 6 becasue he didnt know what 4x6 was
talked to miss b about how i think that bannon writes sloppy to get attention
she agrees with me

after the kids came in from recess they went over their morning work
they have 2 sentences that they need to find where the mistakes are.
mistakes include, spelling,punctuation, grammar and more
most of the students found all of the errors
then the paper gives them a sentence and they need to circle which word fits in the blank
after that miss b read their new read aloud to them
while she was doing that i was ripping pages out of their math books and stapling them as their homework
when i was done with that i stuck them in their mailboxes
then we moved onto a comparison paper about diamond which is the main character in their book now and opal which was their main character in Winn Dixie
the students had to write a sentence about how they were similar and different
most of the students understood the topic but kiddos like noah needed extra help
mrs mummert helped noah write his sentences
i checked the students work to make sure they had the correct answers written down
miss b helped the lower level kids

The kiddos had book exchange
While they were at book exchange miss b and i talked about college
i explained to her that i have been considering switching majors
i told her its because i dont agree with all of the testing that they make the kids do
she said she doesnt agree with it either because they dont do anything with the assesssments they just make the kids take them and dont even look at what they did
then she said that even though its a lot of work its worth it and she wouldnt want to be doing anything else
when the kids got back from book exchange we started with math
i was checking mathboxes
i sit at the back table and when the students need checked i have them come get in a line at the table
if a student needs help i will have them sit back there with me and do the problem together
then once they are done with the probelm i have them go back to their seats
this avoids kids just sitting back there go get extra attention
some kids say that they need help with a problem before they even try to do it
i tell them that they need to at least try the problem before i help them

miss b asked me to go check on royce at the nurses office because she didn't want him to miss the assessment
i went and asked royce if he felt well enough to come back to do the work
he said he did so we walked back to the class together
miss b sent 3 students back with me to work with them
we do one question at a time
miss b reads the question to students
tells them not to move on
bannon is getting very frustrated with his work
he has hitting himself in the head
erasing aggressively
i ignore him because i believe that he is just doing it for attention
the other 2 students work quietly
bannon moved onto number 2 before he was told to so i made him stop
after 2 questions we moved onto a brainbreak

she explained to him that he sat there and wasted 15 minutes when all he needed to do was to ask for help

They had indoor recess because it was raining so they dont get their full energy out
So to calm them down before math Miss B lets them chose a brain break
We moved onto the math review
The review was about fractions
Getting ready for their test tmr
Miss B went through with the class and had them highlight the important info
Had them work individually on their review
She pulled group 1 to work with her 
Morgan and William worked with me
I put a divider in between them so they didnt copy each other
Morgan asked for a lot of help even though she didnt really need it
I told her before I would help her I wanted to see her try the problem first
William didnt ask for much help
I asked him if he wanted help and he said no
When everyone was done Miss B and I checked the reviews to make sure everything was correct

The students have been reading Winn Dixie and since the students did such a good job showing interest in the book Miss B decided to throw them a party once they finished the book
In the book they had egg salad, lozenges, dump punch, pickles and peanut butter sandwiches
So Miss B had each of those foods here at the party
Miss B told the students that they at least had to try each of the foods
Miss B put the egg salad sandwiches on their plates and I put juice in cups and handed it out to students
Most of the students tried everything
They also watched the Winn Dixie movie
Miss B asked the students throughout the movie questions
She told the kiddos to see how the movie and the book are different

The students had book exchange today so while they were there I worked on my reflection essay
When the students came back we had math
I was checking math boxes
Morgan sat beside me
She always has questions
Many students needed help with multiplying so I told them to either do their break apart method or doubling
Most of the students understood what I meant after I said thay
They also didn’t understand how to explain what they did so I said to do the best that they could and then write their work in the box

We started word work yesterday
The students had to find the mistakes in the sentneses and then correct them
After they sound the corrections they had to write the sentences correctly
Some students didn’t want to do it so you just had to keep on them
Then I worked with Bailey and caught her up with her first and second paragraphs
Bailey needed caught up because she was with another teacher when b went over this material
I read what to write to her to make things so faster
B had all of the students sit in a group and explained how to do the third paragraph.
They needed an opening sentence and had to list their examples to their reasons
I worked with Noah because he needed extra help
We got his third and fourth paragraph done
We worked ahead cause he always needs help so it’s better to get ahead then behind with him

I helped Noah cause he wasn’t sure what to underline

We read for about 20-25 minutes
I let him read a few pages but not many because we needed to get the reading done
When everyone else cleaned up Bannon and I went to the hall to finish one chapter
When we finished we came back in to the class

B asked questions through the book to make sure everyone was following the story

Starting math
B took first group of students to teach lesson
I checked and helped with math boxes
Most kids got them done pretty quick
Many students don’t know their times tables
That’s the reason they struggle a lot on their math hoxes
One girl I just had to ignore because she knew how to figure out what 7x6 was she just didn’t want to do the work. B said this happeneds a lot
Some students went back to work with Mrs Kidwell for extra assistance
I made sure that every student had the correct answer before they could get on their laptop
When each student was done I would go up and sit with b and the students and listen to their lesson
B has to teach different groups because it’s impossible to teach 26 3rd graders at one time
I got half way through the 3rd group and had to stop cause I had to leave

I had morgan and william come to the back table with me because they get off topic very easily
i noticed that morgan was looking at williams work so i had her move to a differnt seat
she didnt want to at first but i said it more sternly the second time and then she moved
william stayed on topic and got his work done very quick
morgan was off topic though so i had to keep her on topic

Miss.B told me that they had book exchange today so that I could work on my assignment while they were there
I worked on my portfolio for about 20 minutes while they were there
I asked Miss.B how she stays in contact with parents
She said that she uses remind almost everyday and also sends home a newsletter every month
She said if its a personal problem with a child then she will call or email home
We started math when they came back from book exchange
They were learning about fractions
I checked math boxes 
I told the kiddos to come to the back table if they needed help
Many of them came back to get help with the word problem
Ellie came to me asking how you convert a mixed number to an improper fraction
I told her that you multiple the numbers all around and then keep the same denominator

Independently reading when I arrived
Talked to B about life at Millersville
She explained to me how she lived on campus and how you pick classes
Then B explained to the class about what their optional writing project was
The students at the high school drew pictures and submitted them to a contest. The students can chose any picture they want and write a story about one of them
It can be anything they want- fiction or nonfiction
Many of the students wanted to participate
B picks a winner from her class
Then a 3rd grader gets picked overall by the principal
Then there is a winner for each grade out of all of the elementary schools
B had each student that was participating share their writing piece with her
Many students used their reading workshop to work on the writing
Some students asked me to read what they had so far
They had the idea of it but they just needed some help with spelling and grammar

Today the students were learning about fractions when I got to the classroom. They were practicing on their white boards drawing fractions and comparing them. Miss b would give them a problem. For example they had to figure out with was bigger 3/6 or 2/4. They would draw to side ways rectangles and then split them into the fractions and see which one was bigger. In this case they were equal. The students were having a hard time understanding that in order for the problem to work they had to make the rectangles equal. If they didn’t make them equal then they couldn’t see the comparison. I worked with Bailey and Ameila most of the time because they are the ones who struggle the most.

The students were continuing on their writing pieces today. Today mrs b and I checked their reasons. Most of them had it down pretty solid but I pulled kids aside like Noah and Bailey to help them come up with different reasons. They had a main idea but their reasons were all basically the same. I had to word the question differently for them to understand. Then we did an Oreo experiment that reviewed the stages of the moon. They split the cookies apart and the white part represented the light of the moon. They had to use a spoon to scrape off the excess icing they didn’t need for each stage.

Today the students were cleaning up from indoor recess when I got there. Then we finished up math boxes because most students didn’t finish yet. They needed a lot of help with the math box that had to do with the sides of a shape. They didn’t understand that the one side that was cut in half was equal to the other whole side. So I covered up all of the other sides and showed them that the two half’s were equal. Then we moved onto writing. Their new writing piece is an opinion and they have to convince the reader why something in the school should change. They needed to cone up with their main reason and then three supporting details. Many students chose that thay cafeteria is too loud and had the reasons because there are too many people. The lines are too long and that the loudness gives them a headache.

When I arrived today the students were cleaning up from recess. After recess Miss.B went over their morning writing work with them. This paper had 4 sentences on it and each one had multiple things wrong with it. Some were punctuation and some were grammar. They picked up on pretty much everything other than that they could not figure out that "citys" was spelt wrong. Miss.B explained to them how you have to drop the y and add and ies to the end of the word. Then the students went to book exchange so I worked on my portfolio. When the students came back we did a math warm up and I checked math boxes.

Today I didn't get to my internship until later because of the 2 hour delay. When I walked into the classroom the students were working on their writing pieces. Miss.B had me work with Amelia because she tends to get off topic when typing. So I sat beside her and pointed to the things that she was supposed to be typing. Once we were done with that, we moved onto math boxes. The students had questions about the multiplication one because most of them don't know their times table facts. So I couldn't really help them with much because you cant tell them an answer. You just have to tell them to group them out. Many students had to leave in the middle of the math lesson because they had other things going on like musical, or other specials.

Today the reading teachers were giving the students a lesson about Dr.Seuss. They were reading them a story and then allowed the students to pick a Dr.Seuss book from the back table to read with a partner. Jeliah came up to me and asked if I would read with her. We each would read a page. Then after that we started to work on our writing pieces again. I worked with Noah the entire time because he needed a lot of help with spelling. He is on a first grade reading level so he needed my full attention. I would tell him which words were wrong and then we would go to his spelling chart and see if we could find the words on there. Then we had a "camp out" in the hallway. The entire school could bring blankets, pillows etc and go out into the hall and read for 20 minutes.

When I first got here, they were in the gym watching an assembly from the york area choir center. They had all different types of instruments there and were showing the students what they sound like and what kind of music they play. Then at the end they put on a small musical about a little boy in school who wanted to participate in the play and sing, but he was too embarrassed, and then he overcame his fear and sang in the play. The students really seemed to like it because they were singing along. Then when we came back to the classroom and started to work on our writing pieces. I went around the classroom and helped students fix their corrections that Miss.B left them.

when i first arrived today miss.b had given the students a math test. But then she realized that she gave them the wrong test so she had to go make new copies. While she was making copies Mrs.Kitzmiller stayed with the students and played around the world with them. She practiced multiplication facts with them. then we started the math test. she had me sit with two girls that would need the questions read to them. from the work i was seeing, they were both doing really well.

Today when I walked in Miss. B was reading the class book to the students. They are behind because of all of the snow days. I've noticed that the students can't sit still for more than 20 minutes. Miss. B has to constantly tell them to sit still and to keep their hands in their lap. Then at 1:55 the gym/health teacher game in the teach a lesson about the respiratory system. He went over vocab with them and then had them and a partner work on a worksheet together. After 10 minutes, he had everyone go back to their seats and went over a couple of questions but didn't get fully finished. He collected the papers and took them with him

Today when I went in the students were in the middle of indoor recess. They were inside today because it was too cold outside. We learned a math lesson about order of operations. They haven’t learned PEMDAS yet because they don’t know about exponents. Bentley had to remind the students several times that their hands needed to be free of all things and to pay attention. When she was done teaching the lesson. We moved onto math boxes and I went around to check them. Almost every student needed help on #2. Which was splitting a shape into 2 parts and finding the area for both and then adding them together. So if I could I would pair up 2 students to explain it so I wouldn’t be repeating myself so many times.

There will be trivia questions each Monday
The whole family is supposed to read together

Went around and checked students math boxes
Helped with problems on their computers
They are doing things like
Estimate
Pemdas
Word problems
Fractions

Many students had problems with the word problems and the fractions.

Starting math
B took first group of students to teach lesson
I checked and helped with math boxes
Most kids got them done pretty quick
Many students don’t know their times tables
That’s the reason they struggle a lot on their math hoxes
One girl I just had to ignore because she knew how to figure out what 7x6 was she just didn’t want to do the work. B said this happeneds a lot
Some students went back to work with Mrs Kidwell for extra assistance
I made sure that every student had the correct answer before they could get on their laptop
When each student was done I would go up and sit with b and the students and listen to their lesson
B has to teach different groups because it’s impossible to teach 26 3rd graders at one time
I got half way through the 3rd group and had to stop cause I had to leave

Came back from recess
Continued to work on math boxes
Bentley gave me the answers to the math boxes so I could go around and help/ check the students answers 
Lots of kids needed help with the questions 
If they got done with their math boxes they were allowed to play a math related game on the computers
Went into independent reading 
I was allowed to choose students to read aloud to me
Fire drill
The students knew where to go and that they weren’t allowed to talk
Started writing lesson when we came back in from drill
Bentley explained that all they needed to do was copy their thesis statement from their organizer to their rough draft 
She made sure they skipped lines and indented
She had me staple their homework together and put them in their mailboxes
Called students by busses to get packed up and get mail

Asked where I should put my things
Students, myself and Bentley sat in a circle and Introduced themselves
Bentley introduced herself
I shared with the class my name and what I like to do in my free time
Bentley warned me about some students and their behavior issues
Went to pride assembly
Chose students who were respectful and had integrity
The students that were chosen got to go up on stage with teacher and play a game

Since today was my last day they threw me another goodbye party. The students made me a card and signed their names in it and then the teachers got me a card and wrote something little in it. I also brought the students doughnuts since today was my last day with them. I am so thankful that I got to spend my first internship with them. They taught me so much and I have learned way more then I expected. I will cherish everything they have taught me forever

Today I worked with Tyler. He doesn’t like to do IEP work but I try to make it as fun as possible. I make sure to give him plenty of breaks and rewards when he does good work. We read site words for a little bit. He did really well with that. And then we moved onto flash cards. He has a big stack of cards and he has to know each word on the card. He pronounces everything very well. He had trouble remembering the word “would” tho. So we had to do airless teaching unless he got it right.

Since today was my first day back in awhile, Mrs. Royer told me that I could work on my project for the class. I had pretty much everything done, but I did need to finalize some things. I printed out the pictures for my artifacts and used the hole puncher and punched holes into the paper so that I could place them in the binder. Then I went down the hall to ask Mrs.Jordan if I could observe her class for my essay.

Today we had the holiday concert. We lined the students up and walked down the hall. When we got the gym we sat in the back. The choir sang first and then other students came up and played their instruments. The one song the principle of the school played his guitar. I thought that was really cool because it shows how he can interact with the students. Gage couldn’t sit down the entire time so we allowed him to stand, and sometimes he would even dance. Although it was funny we had to make him stand still because it was a distraction.

Today I worked with autumn. First we did some cutting. She had to cut out zig zagged lines. She did really well with that. Then we did IEP work. She can count all the way up to 15 with troubles of 13 and 14. She has problems pronouncing them. Then we went over to mrs Burke’s room to watch a show about Christmas with snoopy. They got cheese balls and sprite. Abby kept saying that she wanted more but we said no more because she will her too hyper.

Today we had art. I work with Abby. She needs to constantly be reinforced to keep working. She also has a hard time with keeping her spit in her mouth. Normally when we’re in the classroom we tell her that she needs to her a tissue when she does that. But at art class I just get up and get a tissue for her. So she can keep working on her project. They were making a snowman. They had to rip up pieces of paper and glue them onto the paper
