Today the students were learning about fractions when I got to the classroom. They were practicing on their white boards drawing fractions and comparing them. Miss b would give them a problem. For example they had to figure out with was bigger 3/6 or 2/4. They would draw to side ways rectangles and then split them into the fractions and see which one was bigger. In this case they were equal. The students were having a hard time understanding that in order for the problem to work they had to make the rectangles equal. If they didn’t make them equal then they couldn’t see the comparison. I worked with Bailey and Ameila most of the time because they are the ones who struggle the most.
